Frequently asked questions

The product, the lock, cash at home, and your order. Can't find it? Write to us.

The product

Material, dimensions, capacity.

What are the exact dimensions?

About 7.5 x 4.3 in closed, roughly 1.2 in thick — the footprint of a pocket journal. Inside: 50 ring-bound sleeves, for 100 clear slots. Empty weight is around 10.5 oz.

Do U.S. bills fit properly in the sleeves?

Yes. All U.S. bills, from $1 to $100, are the same size — 6.14 x 2.61 in — and slide into the sleeves completely flat, with no folding needed.

What is the book made of?

Textured, croc-embossed synthetic leather, hot-pressed, with visible stitching and metal rivets at the corners. The inner sleeves are clear ring-bound film. The exterior wipes clean with a slightly damp cloth.

Can it be used for anything other than storing bills?

Yes, and it often is: a collection of vintage or foreign bills, travel tickets and keepsakes, gift cards, or a birthday gift presented as something more than an envelope. The clear sleeves protect anything flat and thin.

The lock

What it does, and what it doesn't.

Is this a safe?

No, and we don't want to let you assume it is. It's a leather-bound book with a combination lock. It stops casual opening — a curious kid, a guest, a roommate, anyone passing through your home.

It won't resist someone determined with a tool. For serious amounts of cash, you need a bolted-down safe and a conversation with your insurer.

How do I set the code?

The book ships set to 000. Dial 000, push the latch left, and it opens. To set your own code, push the latch right and hold it while you dial your three digits, then release — the new code is saved. From then on, dial your code and push left to open.

I forgot my code. What now?

There's no master code, no backup key, and no unlock service. That's exactly what makes the lock worth having — and it's also its limit.

Write your combination down somewhere else, like a password manager, on day one. If the code is truly lost, the strap can be forced open, but the lock mechanism won't survive it.

Keeping cash at home

The questions we hear most, answered honestly.

Should I pull my savings out of the bank?

No, and that's not what we're suggesting. Your bank deposits are FDIC-insured up to $250,000 per depositor, per bank, and cash at home earns no interest while losing value to inflation.

A reasonable use is a day-to-day reserve — a few hundred dollars — or a cash budgeting system. We're not financial advisors: talk to a licensed professional about how to allocate your savings.

Does my homeowners or renters insurance cover cash at home?

It depends entirely on your policy. Most standard policies set a specific, often low, limit for cash and valuables — separate from and usually far below the limit for personal property, and sometimes conditional on a locked safe.

Check the "cash and valuables" line in your policy documents before deciding how much to keep at home.

How much should I keep at home?

We don't give a number, because it depends on your household and your insurance. The only widely cited benchmark is the FEMA 72-hour guideline: enough small-denomination cash to get through three days if cards and ATMs are unavailable.

Is it legal to keep cash at home?

Yes — there's no legal limit on how much cash you can hold at your own residence in the United States. Reporting requirements apply to large cash transactions and deposits, not to simple possession. If it's stolen, though, recovery depends entirely on your insurance policy.

Orders, shipping, returns

What are the shipping times and costs?

Free shipping, no minimum, across the contiguous United States. Delivery typically takes 5–9 business days. A tracking number is emailed the moment your order ships.

What if it's not for me?

You have 14 days after delivery to write to us. We email a return label and your refund is issued once the book is back with us in the same condition it left in — unused, with no marks or damage to the leather or the lock. No receipt required, but the item does need to be in resellable shape.

What payment methods do you accept?

Credit and debit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay.
